Cold Weather Conditions Expected

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism through the Department of Meteorological Services; Public Weather Services Division wishes to inform the public that cold weather conditions are expected this week. 

A cold front is expected to transverse the sub-continent today, the 12th of July 2021, followed by a ridge extended from the Atlantic Ocean high pressure cell. The high pressure cell will result in advection of cold air into the country, hence causing significant drop in temperatures over most parts of the country.

The cold spell is expected to affect most areas of the country from 13th to 15th July 2021. Maximum temperatures will be ranging from very cold to cold (i.e. 11 to 21 degrees Celsius) over Gantsi, Kgalagadi, Southern, Southeast, Kgatleng, Kweneng, North-East and Central districts.

The Ngamiland and Chobe districts will, however remain relatively mild, with maximum temperatures ranging between 22 to 25 degrees Celsius during this period. 

Some places over the southern half of the country will experience sub-zero minimum temperatures from 14th to 15th July 2021.

 Generally minimum temperatures from 14th to 15th July 2021 will range between -4 to 7 degrees Celsius across the country. From Friday 16th July 2021 we expect gradual increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures countrywide. 

Due to this cold temperature the public is advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and vulnerable people during this period.
