Do You Know The Six Main Types of Pesticides?

Pesticides are any substances used to keep various harmful plants and animals away from crops.  There are six main types of pesticides:

Insecticides.

These chemicals specifically kill or repel insects.

Herbicides

These chemicals kill or repel weeds and other harmful plants.

There are 5 types of herbicides:

  1. broad spectrum – these work on a wide variety of weeds
  2. selective – these work on a narrow range of weeds
  3. contact – these destroy plant tissue at or near the point of contact (they do not spread around the plant), and require even coverage in their application
  4. systemic – these move through the plant’s circulation system, and can be injected into the plant
  5. residual – these can be applied to the soil and destroy by root uptake. They remain active in the ground for a certain length of time, and can control germinating seedlings.
Rodenticides
