BVI Attends the Annual Tanzania Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (TAVEPA) Meeting

In an effort to sensitize the Industry in Tanzania on the economic and trade restrictions of foot and mouth disease as well as solutions available from BVI to counter these, the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) and Bajuta International (T) LTD attended the annual Tanzania Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (TAVEPA) Meeting as well as that of the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TV) in Dodoma Tanzania from 21-24th November 2021.

BVI and Bajuta hosted a consultative workshop on 21 November 2021 during the TAVEPA annual Conference. The workshop centred mainly on foot and mouth disease, its diagnosis, surveillance and effective control. BVI highlighted its various offerings both service and products that could help Tanzania negate the impacts of the disease and potential benefits to be derived (Beef and Dairy Sectors) from Tanzania’s 33 million Cattle population if FMD is controlled.

Following the TAVEPA meeting, BVI and Bajuta International (T) LTD hosted a second event on 24th November 2021 to officially launch the BVI foot and mouth disease vaccine “Aftovaxpur”‘ to delegates from the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TVA), Tanzania Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (TAVEPA) as well as Senior Officials of the Veterinary Fraternity.

The event showcased how Aftovaxpur had helped many African countries in controlling FMD and also focused on the BVI- Bajuta Roadmap for foot and mouth disease control in Tanzania. The event demonstrated BVI’s total package solution of not only providing Africa’s tried and tested premium foot and mouth disease vaccine “Aftovaxpur” but also providing strong pre and post sales technical support on disease identification and control strategies.The Veterinary fraternity of Tanzania strongly welcomed the BVI-Bajuta collaboration and looked forward to a bright future for Tanzania’s livestock keepers.

Both events were aimed at continuation of market expansion for BVI especially in East African market as well as increasing BVI brand recognition in that region. The BVI and Bajuta International Tanzania partnership started in early 2021 and by July 2021 the first FMD Vaccines landed in Tanzania for distribution to Tanzania’s Commercial Dairy Farmers. More vaccines are expected to be delivered before end of the Year.
